Access to capital is a formidable hurdle, hindering growth and perpetuating disparities. In this session, we delve into the intricate issues surrounding funding and explore the profound impact on the entrepreneurial landscape.

Meridian’s uniquely flexible loan program supports entrepreneurial diversity and improved access to financing.

Securing business financing can be difficult for entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, this challenge is often greater for entrepreneurs in diverse groups, including Indigenous peoples, women entrepreneurs, newcomers to Canada, visible minorities, 2SLGBTQ+ people, and people with disabilities.

To help close that financing gap, Meridian’s Business Accelerator loans program offers flexible term financing for improved access to working capital between $25,000 and $500,000, supported by BDC*.   Businesses located on Reserve are also eligible for up to $100,000.

At BDC, Brayden’s efforts in shaping access to capital for Indigenous entrepreneurs through advisory services, lending, and financial confidence awareness were pivotal. This work has continued throughout his career, supporting Indigenous markets and contributing to a more inclusive financial landscape.

Now at Meridian, Brayden leads with a dynamic and strategic approach, championing programs that resonate with his deep-rooted passion for social impact and community growth. He oversees a range of activities that includes community partnerships, Indigenous lending, and managing Indigenous strategy and reconciliation efforts. Brian Mocha, Meridian

Brian was born and raised in St. Catharines and currently lives with his wife, Andrea, and two children. He has worked for the Meridian Credit Union for the past 20+ years. He has held various business banking management roles over the years, including those on the sales and credit risk sides of the organization; however, his current role is the Director, Program Lending for Business Banking.

Brian’s past volunteer experience has included 14+ years with Bethlehem Housing support services, which has included roles such as finance committee Member, Director on the Board, and a 5-year stint as part of the executive team serving as the Treasurer.

In his spare time, Brian enjoys playing tennis, pickleball, curling, and spending time at the Lakehouse on Georgian Bay. He also supports his children in all their academic, athletic, and artistic endeavors.
