Cultural Awareness Trainer: Jennifer David, Chapleau Cree First Nation, is a senior consultant, communications expert and instructor with NVision Insight Group, a majority-owned Indigenous consulting company with First Nations, Inuit and Métis shareholders and staff.

The Path is available in French.  It is called Le Parcours: Votre voyage au sein du Canada autochtone and it is facilitated by Nathalie Coutou. Nathalie est métis de la nation Mi’kmaq. Elle est diplômée en arts graphiques. Depuis 2001, elle a opère sa Boutique et Galerie d’art nommée KHEWA afin de promouvoir les artistes Autochtones, Métis et Inuit. Elle offre des services d’interprétation culturelle, des ateliers et des événements éducatifs concernant diverses réalités Autochtones.

NVision has developed three courses in Indigenous cultural competency.

Course Information:

1. The Path: Your Journey Through Indigenous Canada meets the TRC’s Calls to Action for Canadians to learn about “the history and legacy of residential schools, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Treaties and Aboriginal rights, Indigenous law, and Aboriginal– Crown relations.”

The course is available online (5 modules), in-person (full-day) or by virtual classroom on Adobe Connect (full-day spread across four sessions).

1. The Path: Indigenous Intercultural Intelligence meets the TRC’s Calls to Action for Canadians to receive  “skills-based training in intercultural competency, conflict resolution, human rights, and anti-racism.” This course provides the tools and techniques to help participants understand their own cultural and racial attitudes and build inter-cultural capacity, humility and intelligence.

This course is offered in-person (full-day) and by virtual classroom on Adobe Connect (full-day divided into four sessions).

1. The Path: Indigenous Engagement is a transformative, skills-based experience that provides opportunities to learn about the importance (and often legal requirements) of Indigenous engagement and consultation, clarifying terms such as co-manage, co-develop, engage, consult, Indigenous Knowledge Systems, OCAP and FPIC. Learners will gain an understanding of engagement practices and how to conduct meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities, organizations and/or governments. If you are a researcher, scientist, government representative, or resource company representative and your goal is to prepare for Indigenous engagement, this is the course for you.

This course is offered in-person (full-day) and by virtual classroom on Adobe Connect (full-day divided into four sessions).

Dozens of organizations and businesses have taken The Path including construction companies, mining companies, forestry organizations, law firms, municipalities and diplomats.
