Cultural Awareness Trainer: Holly Fortier, a Cree/Dene from Ft. McKay First Nation, Alberta, was born in Treaty 7 Territory and was fortunate to be raised by cultural leaders, academics, and activists. She owns a business that specializes in the development and delivery of Indigenous Awareness Training. Since being in business in October 2007, thousands of people across Canada have participated in her training sessions. Some of Holly’s clients include government agencies, non-profit organizations, schools, banks, police and fire, industry councils and corporations.

Holly also has a film production company and produced a short documentary on her mothers Indian Residential School story.  Feel free to watch and share https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip3yGEKGCX4

Workshop: Using historical accounts and personal narrative, Holly draws upon the wisdom and experiences of family, Elders, Indigenous academics, artists, and community members to introduce powerful themes. Holly uses a highly structured approach that provides ample opportunity for discussion, and for reflection upon information that is often completely new for participants.

This approach is complemented by an engaging, thoughtful, sensitive and interactive facilitation style which makes Holly’s sessions thought-provoking and enjoyable. It is Holly’s hope that through a better understanding of Aboriginal peoples and their traditional territories, participants will be encouraged to adopt a respectful understanding of the territory in which they work, and the Indigenous communities with which they may engage.

Custom workshops are available on request. We are happy to work within your needs to facilitate our workshops.
