Owner/Operator, Askiy Mat Services
Sandy Sanderson is the owner/operator of Askiy Mat Service Inc, an innovative entrance floor mat company in the Alberta oil sands region. With the use of advanced cleaning equipment, Askiy has reduced Suncor/Syncrude’s carbon emission footprint which has been verified through third party institutions. He is also the President of the Northeastern Alberta Business Association and an advocate for Indigenous Economic Prosperity having recently participated in a webinar with Dr Ken Coates on what might be called the “next wave” of Indigenous economic engagement, moving beyond the fairly limited returns of the past quarter century and establishing a foundation for more extensive Indigenous involvement and long-term prosperity building.
Sandy is proud to be a member of Mikisew Cree First Nation and engaged in a lifelong journey to renew his culture and language which is important to his identity. As the world begins to rethink and recognize our Indigenous culture, rights and past, Sandy is an avid learner of liberating Indigenous Peoples and sharing his knowledge and experiences which couples with his post-secondary experiences.
