Miikana Consulting

Canada

MIIKANA CONSULTING is a boutique consulting firm with offices in the Sudbury and Toronto areas that assists organizations, governments, and communities in developing positive, sustainable Indigenous relations to support economic and community development initiatives.

At Miikana, we believe that the ability to develop and nurture positive relationships between Indigenous communities and organizations while addressing potential conflicting interests is critical to reconciliation. Our approach to community engagement is grounded in respect. We respect and understand the rights of Indigenous People(s). We respect cultural differences. We understand and appreciate colonialism’s ongoing impacts on engagement and partnership.

Our experienced team has a long history working at the intersection of Indigenous communities, governments and industry partners. Our team has worked with hundreds of Indigenous communities and organizations, including Indigenous communities, regional and territorial organizations, and private-owned Indigenous enterprises. Additionally, we have partnered with non-Indigenous governments and the private sector to assist them in becoming better partners to Indigenous people, organizations and communities through our training, education, policy, strategy and partnership development work.

We specialize in:

  • Indigenous organizational development and learning
  • Indigenous strategy development and implementation
  • Indigenous community engagement
  • Indigenous partnership & business development
  • Bespoke project-specific support
  • We have had the privilege of working with hundreds of non-Indigenous governments and organizations
  • Indigenous Learning Approach

Our constantly evolving Indigenous learning programs have been delivered to 400,000k+  learners across many organizations who want to be great partners to Indigenous people, organizations, and communities. Our learning programs focus on essential foundational topics rather than on specific communities or cultures. Our vetted and approved by Nations Indigenous Foundations program is a suite of six online micro-modules covering the essential topics for being a respectful partner to Indigenous people, organizations, and communities. This foundational program takes less than 2 hours to complete (which can be taken in multiple short intervals). Where desirable, or if certain employee groups cannot access online learning, in-person Indigenous Foundations training can be provided.
