About Indigenous Insight

Indigenous Insight has signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement with CanScribe Career College to develop an Indigenous Engagement Program. Created from a First Nations perspective, this program launched on March 7, 2025.

Indigenous Insight is 100% Aboriginal-owned company operating on ɬaʔamɩn (Tla’amin) Nation Treaty Settlement Lands. Indigenous Insight provides Indigenous engagement, cultural awareness training and advisory services to non-Indigenous businesses, organizations, corporations, and all levels of government.

Navigating Indigenous engagement requires at minimum, a working understanding of the 630+ recognized First Nations (or Indian bands) across Canada, including online presence, contemporary issues, colonial and contemporary decision-making processes within band administration offices and organizational structures.

While many First Nation communities are thriving in today’s economy, others continue to face challenges in generating economic benefits and opportunities for their people. It is no exaggeration to say that most First Nation communities have endured decades-long colonial recessions since first contact with European settlers.

About KWAST-en-ayu

KWAST-en-ayu (or L. Maynard Harry) is a member of the Tla’amin Nation (TN) of the Coast Salish culture and a former Hegus (or headman) and councillor (4 terms). Tla’amin is located on the west coast of Canada. Maynard was bestowed with his ancestral name on May 10, 2003, by his Tla’amin’s Elders immediately before his nation signed the Sliammon First Nation – Corporation District of Powell River ‘Community Accord’.

KWAST-enayu brings a unique, honest, direct First Nation perspective to Indigenous cultural awareness training. Political correctness is not a priority. Instead, this perspective and training delivery leads with truth, respect, acknowledgment, and clarity. What sets this program apart is Indigenous Insight’s distinct First Nation perspective on Aboriginal rights and title, Canada’s colonization history, reconciliation, and leadership.

For non-Indigenous peoples to be successful in any training program, critical thinking and evolution of thought must be recognized as prerequisites. Maynard’s teachings have been sharpened from 30+ years of direct exposure to decision-making under Canada’s Indian Act, actually living on a Indian Reserve his entire life and being of a family directly impacted by Canada’s Indian Residential School System. Maynard’s in-depth knowledge of the history and culture of Aboriginal peoples, their traditional land and resource practices and archaeological footprint comes from years of working closely with traditional land and resource use experts and Elders.

Maynard’s has worked in the Indigenous economic/business development space for many years, in multiple capacities and brings a unique understanding of the substantial distinctions between Indian Reserve communities and economies and non-Indigenous cities, towns, municipalities.

Maynard was a guest presenter for at Ch’nook Indigenous Business Education (UBC’s Sauder School of Business) and participates on UBC’s Indigenous Procurement Committee.
